HEDGES
We mulched around the basis of the trees and hedges around the grainstore using organic bark mulch. The mulch: suppresses the weeds, reducing competition; retains valuable moisture during hot periods, reducing the watering requirements and provides a slow release fertiliser as it breaks down into the soil.
Hedge cutting
September is hedgecutting season! The RSPB: ‘recommend avoiding hedge cutting during the main breeding season for nesting birds, which usually runs throughout March to August each year.
This can be weather dependent and some birds may nest outside this period, so it is important to always check carefully for active nests prior to cutting’
Following this advice and conforming with the Wildlife and Countryside Act we take great care not to disturb the local residents!
Trimming in September keeps the boundaries managed and encourages lateral growth. This thickens the hedgerows; creating a denser screen for better guest privacy and sound absorption.
