WILDFLOWER MEADOW
Wildflower Meadow Prep
In December we began the prep work for our new wildflower meadow! An area previously left to grow wild during the growing season, we decided to improve the biodiversity for the local wildlife (and the beauty for the guests!) of the area.
We stripped the existing turf and prepped the area for seed sowing in the Spring. The removed turf was taken up to the compost area to provide an excellent habitat for microorganisms and fertilising compost for later use around The Grain Store.
We will be planting the area with a 100% Native Wildflower Mix.
We specifically chose this mix to create diverse wildflower meadows that would survive on chalky soil (like that of the South Downs). The mix contains a plethora of tall, perennial wildflowers in pleasing pastel shades, traditionally found in native meadows. From the sunny-yellow spires of agrimony to the purple pincushions of knapweed, this mix is both pleasing to the eye and greatly appreciated by bees and butterflies!
